of involved youth with adult supervision bringing leadership and friendship
to the club. Monthly meetings and activities are being planned, from
starting a photo album to going on a trail ride, this group is making
its big break. Hoping to one day host horse shows, this new club is

to come and participate in this fun and growing club. Come join the
fun! New Mexico Dressage Association Most riders view dressage as an exotic and difficult discipline of riding. Dressage is actually basic training for the horse and rider, and is really not too difficult for any serious horseman. All riders and horses, no matter what style of riding they do, can benefit from dressage. Dressage teaches the rider balance and control, and refines the rider's position on the horse. It conditions the horse and helps him to become balanced and go on the bit, which of course is important no matter what style of riding one does. Nmdcta@aol.com 7/1/06 Try cavalry reenacting. Experience serious horsemanship with history. We are a living history group portraying "B" Company (New Mexico) 5th Texas Confederate Cavalry (1862-1865) and 1870's Indian Wars 4th U.S. Cavalry. The unit is part of the Old Fort Griffin Memorial Regiment and participates in local living history events as well as dynamic regional and national events such as the Buffalo Days Indian Fight in Wyoming and our big event in 2003, the 140th reenactment of Gettysburg. See our regimental website at www.texascavalry.net for details. There are some members with extra critters who can use help and might be willing to trade letting you drive a little!! This driving group is oriented toward showing. Many members participate in Santa Fe & Albuquerque Arabian, Pinto, and Driving Clubs. Others actively show in some of the larger less local breed association shows, Fjord, Friesian (hmmm, did I spell that right?), Shetland, etc. This is a great place to come to be exposed to the different breeds used and loved by driving enthusiasts. Horses range in types from little itty bitty guys to gorgeous heavy weights. Some "whips" (drivers) have fancy carriages and some have little two wheel carts. Some drivers are brand new and some very polished. The club holds training and regular shows several times a year, and usually sponsors a Clinician once a year. Additionally, ICHA or Salt Lick Stables sponsors a "ride-a-thon" fund raiser each fall, to raise funds for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. It is a 5-10 mile trail ride over a private ranch in the midst of the Cibola Forest and the foothills of the Zuni Mountains.
