Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, MI. HORSE TRAINING. I am a 22-year-old college student with 12 years of riding experience and 9 years of Hunter Jumper Show Experience. I have been training horses for the past 5 years.
Working out of the Grand Rapids area I specialize in working with young horses of any breed. My true passion is working with Thoroughbreds right off the track and retraining them for new careers. I have worked with ponies as well as the larger breeds.
Training with numerous well known names around the Grand Rapids area, and participating in many clinics from well established professionals, I have accumulated many different training techniques and am prepared to work with any type of horse. Trained primarily in Hunter Jumpers, I also trained in dressage, jumpers, and eventing.

Lakeville

Does your child want a horse? Maybe they've taken a few lessons here and there, but do they know the real responsibility of taking care of one? Here's the solution: HORSEMANSHIP CLASSES! I'm 18 yrs old and I have a hobby farm in Lakeville, MN. During the winter and early spring I teach (with the help of my good friends, Tex the pony and Ray Dee the Quarter Horse) kids the responsibility of owning a horse. They learn about different kinds of breeds, what and how much to feed, how to get a horse ready for a show, how to clean stalls, and more. It's lots of fun and the cost is only $10 per session. We meet saturday mornings from 10-11am. No horse experience necessary. E-mail GenuineACE952@aol.com for more info. 2/12/06

Abate Training and Lessons Training Services
Tier 1: Beginning Training Level Price $ 25 /per week
Details: Horse is started out with ground level training and beginning saddle training. At the completion of Tier 1, horse will have a basic understanding of ground work and saddle work. Ground work will include a focus on control and respect from the horse, being able to walk, trot and canter a circle, stop, back and switch directions from the ground. Saddle work will include a focus on the starting of a horse under saddle in which the horse will accept a rider on his/her back, yield to the bit, flex in the poll, be able to walk, trot ,canter, stopping and backing. At this level the horse is started and continued in its saddle training in a o-ring snaffle, full check snaffle or a D-ring.
Tier 2: Intermediate Training Level Price: $ 50 /per week
Details: Horse is advanced in ground level training and advanced in saddle training. At the completion on Tier 2, horse will have a better understanding of ground work and saddle work. Horse will have a polished ground work understanding and will be advanced in in-hand training and will be more advanced in his/her saddle training. Saddle work will be advanced from Tier 1, in which the horse will have a greater understanding of saddle training. At the ending of Tier 2, the horse will be able to be shown in beginning classes at lower level classes.
Tier 3: Advanced Training Level Price: $75 /per week
Details: Horse is advanced in ground level training and saddle training. The horse, depending on the length of the Tier 3, may become nearly finished or finished. In ground work, the horse will have a advanced understanding of in-hand work and ground work. The horse, at completion of this program, will be able to be worked on the ground without the aid of a lunge line/lead (no horse should be trusted in a large area without fencing while working off line UNLESS you and the horse are advanced enough together to handle outside situations). In saddle work the horse will be polished in their work through the walk, trot, canter, stop and back. Additional maneuvers may be taught on the horses focus training. Western focus will be started in sliding stops, turnarounds, roll backs and flying lead changes. English focus will be started in flying lead changes, collecting gaits, extending gaits and jumping. At the ending of Tier 3, the horse will be able to be shown in more advanced classes at local horse shows.
Tier 4: Additional Training Price: $100 /per week
Details: The horse will be completely advanced in either the English or the Western focus. After the completion of this program, the horse will be able to be shown in more advanced horse shows. In the English focus, the horse will work on collecting and extending their gaits, half-passing, half-halts, flying lead changes and jumping. The horse, depending on his/her jumping ability will be advanced as far as the horse’s natural ability will take him/her. In the Western focus, the horse will perform sliding stops, turnarounds, rollbacks and flying lead changes. The owner may choose, to have the horse be started bridleless in either English or Western focus. If the horse is kept in Tier 4 and allowed to advance more, the horse will be able to be ridden bridleless in a enclosed arena. As always with horses, no matter what training they have received, if the horse is taken outside of an enclosure bridleless, he/she may at anytime revert back to being a “horse”, so this is strongly urged against doing this. At the end of Tier 4, the horse will have a even greater understanding then they had at the completion of Tier 3. The horse will be able to be shown in more advanced classes at area horse shows.
Their will come a point in which the horse can be taken to a more specialized trainer in the discipline that you intend to ride/compete in, that I will no longer be needed. No hard feelings. If at any time that you would like to leave training and/or switch to another trainer, I can assist you in finding a suitable trainer for you and your horse.
When your horse is completing a Tier Program, I do ask that the owner of the horse in training comes for 3 free lessons on their horse. I will show you how to continue the training of your horse and show you all his “buttons”. I believe that a horse will continue to grow in their training if the owner is involved. This will not only save you more time, energy and money, but strengthen the bond between you and your horse.
**If you do not board your horse at the facility where I train, I ask that you pay a daily mileage fee for my traveling to your barn. For this, I will schedule five training days on your horse at your facility.**
***I also ask that the horse has its own saddle, bridle, riding gear and grooming gear that is available for me to use. Not all saddles and bridles fit horses appropriately and the well-being of your horse is vital to his/her training. Along with grooming supplies, this is to keep germs from being spread from horse to horse***
